Maybe this is an old subject, but I'd be interested in how everyone first heard about Cherie.
I remember as a child reading either Crawdaddy mag or Rolling Stone and reading an article about the Runaways. I went to the record store in my neighborhood that day and picked up The Runaways first release as well as Blondie's self-titled album and drove my poor mother crazy from that day on.
God I remember the kids at school making fun of me for liking these bands - if you didn't listen to only Van Halen and Journey in my high school you were open game.
I was crushed when the band broke up - but thankfully most of them went on to bigger and better things.
Anyone else?

Busy playing in my own band at the time, I totally missed The Runaways back in the day.

Well, having always been a Jodie Foster fan I decided to rent some of her movies when I got
my first VCR in 84. I guess you could say Cherie stole the show when I watched FOXES!
I was an instant fan, for sure and started trying to find out all I could about this wonderful actress.
Can can imagine my delight when I found out she had been in this really cool band with
Joan Jett, called The Runaways?!?!

I found all The Runaways albums and Cherie's solo albums through the GOLDMINE collectors magazine.
Finally in 2001 I got online and immediately started searching the web for Cherie stuff.

Let's just say, for a dude with a bad case of the CC Fever, finding this message board was
just what the doctor ordered!

I am now one very happy CCamper, indeed!!!

I heard only of them from the unforgettable famous radio jockey may he rest in peace now Scott MUNIE ( Scott's O ) from WNEW 102.7fm in NYC [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

He played Cherry_Bomb for the first time and I melted. I would call the radio station and request the song and Scott always played it. He was very supportive of The RUNAWAYS and became a very close friend to JOAN JETT later in the years.

I did pick up Crawdaddy as well

The First time I heard of the Runaways was in the summer of "76" when my friends sister had bought their album.

When she showed it to me I could'nt take my eyes off this Hot Chick in a Corset....LOL

Later, the winter of "77", my friend and I went to the Rush concert and the Runaways were the opening band.

It wasn't until 30 yrs later when I was looking up wood carving and Chainsaw Art on the web that I discovered Cherie was a Chainsaw Artist.

And thats how I re-discovered the Runaways!

I went on a "ROAD TRIP" this past June to the Chiller theatre convention and got to meet some of the nicest board members, PartyGrrllzzz, NewYorkJettster, and Sportyfan. We had a great time and had the pleasure of meeting Cherie and her son Jake!

So if you ever get the chance to meet her do it.

She is the Nicest and Sweetest person I have ever met!

Before August 22 this year I had no idea who Cherie Currie was nor did I ever hear any Runaways music (although the name was stuck somewhere in the attics of my brain). I knew of Joan's work and even saw Lita in concert 20 years ago. I was surfing the cable waiting for an Angels game when I stumbled upon "The Movie"---I was immediately mesmerized by the saga and the personalities but what really hooked me was Sandy's "Wild Thing" (the best version EVER!) So I got a copy of "Live in Japan" to find out more about the music and was totally captivated by Cherie's vocals song after song! So I hit the web sites, read her book, bought ALL the albums and haven't played anything else in my car since! Even my kids are into her! The icing on the cake, however is her artwork--all the above has led me to ChainsawChick
for which I will be ever grateful.

By the way, Cherie is way more beautiful in person than in her pictures ( and the pictures are GREAT!), dontcha think?

Summer 1976 and I'd just bought my weekly supply of the music papers. The New Musical Express broke the news of the Runaways to the UK by doing a major feature on them - if memory serves, they were on the cover. Inside was an interview with an all female rock band with an astonishing attitude who were the same age as me - unheard of back then. A couple of weeks later another music paper, Sounds, also featured them. Even though I hadn't heard any of the album - how did we ever survive without the internet? - I took a chance and bought it, loved it, then read that they would be playing in my native city of Glasgow in the very near future.

Oh my God - I forgot about the slingshots and water pistols. Can't believe they were all considered s-l-u-t-s, at least they wore underwear (Unlike Ms. Spears).
I think they wore underwear anyway - someone tell me if they know differently.
I still get mad when I think about how much they were (and still are) ignored by the industry. What's up with that anyway?
